Alloy Wheel Ceramic Coating

Brake dust bakes on hardest on the inner barrel of the rim, which you cannot reach with the wheel fitted. So this service starts by taking the wheels off: both faces of the rim are washed and decontaminated, FEYNLAB Ceramic Wheel & Caliper goes onto the rims and the brake calipers, and the tyres are dressed.

The scope of this service is fixed: wheels off, both faces of the rim washed and decontaminated, a ceramic layer on the rims and the brake calipers, tyres dressed. Taking the wheels off is what sets it apart from cleaning the wheels on the car — there is no other way to reach the inner barrel of the rim.

Where a Wash Mitt Cannot Reach

When a car is washed, the wheels are wiped from the outside — the spokes and the face of the rim, which is what you see. The inner barrel, which a hand reaches only once the wheel is off, stays out of reach. That is where brake dust bakes on hardest, because it sits close to the disc and nothing washes it off there. Our guide to orange spots on alloy wheels explains where the brown spots come from.

What Happens During This Service

We take the wheels off the car, which gets us to both faces of the rim and into the places the tyre and the brake caliper otherwise hide. Washing and decontamination follow, on the outer and the inner face of the rim. A layer of FEYNLAB Ceramic Wheel & Caliper then goes onto the rims and the brake calipers, and the tyres are dressed. What the material does, and the warranty we give on the work, is on its own page.

Why Rims and Calipers Together

The brake caliper and the rim sit next to each other and pass dust between them. So they get the same material in the same step, while the wheels are off — there will be no second chance to reach the caliper without taking them off again.

A Dressing, Not a Coating

The tyres get FEYNLAB Black Velvet, a polymer dressing, not the ceramic layer used on the rims. It is a different step with a different product, which is why we keep it apart in the process and in the price. Our guide on why tyres turn brown covers how rubber behaves and why sidewalls brown.

How This Differs From the Ceramic Protection Add-on

Ceramic paint protection can be booked with a Wheels and Calipers add-on. There, though, the wheels stay on the car and what gets treated is whatever is within reach without removing them. Alloy wheel ceramic coating is a job of its own precisely because it takes the wheels off and reaches the inner face of the rim. If you want cleaning and a tyre dressing without any coating, that is wheel and wheel arch cleaning.

Who This Is For

It makes sense where brake dust clings to the inner barrel of the rim as well, out of reach when the wheels stay on, and where someone wants the rims, calipers and tyres handled as one job rather than piece by piece. Especially on light-coloured or glossy rims, where dust staining shows most, and on cars driven mainly in town with a lot of braking.

Tell us through the enquiry form what car and what rims you have — the scope and the material come with the service, so all that is left is the date.
