I wash the car, and the wheels still look dirty.
Brake dust bakes onto the rims, brown spots appear that washing won't shift, and the tyre sidewall browns before anything else on the car. A harsher wheel cleaner just dulls the rim faster. Wheel and tyre care therefore rests on two things: getting the dirt off by a method the particular rim will take, and putting a ceramic layer on the rims and the brake calipers. Hot particles off the brakes then land on that layer, with no bare metal to bite into, and sit on top where shampoo is enough.

- Alloy wheel and wheel arch cleaning: the wheels stay on the car. Iron fallout off the rims, arches cleaned out, tyre sidewalls dressed. It can be booked on its own or added to a car wash.

In both services the tyre sidewalls get Black Velvet, a water-based polymer treatment that doesn't sling onto the paint and doesn't attract dust.
