FEYNLAB PPF Flex — film with a built-in ceramic layer

FEYNLAB PPF Flex: a TPU paint protection film with a ceramic layer built into its surface, 200 microns, 10-year warranty. How it differs and where its limit is.

Film protects the paint, but the film itself is still a surface that gets dirty. Water sits in patches after a wash, dust collects where a cloth doesn't easily reach, and fine wash swirls show on the film just as they would on paint.

FEYNLAB PPF Flex is a paint protection film made of aliphatic thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) with a ceramic layer built into its surface — it isn't applied on top after installation. It is 8 mil thick, roughly 200 microns. The warranty is 10 years and, according to the Czech distributor, covers cracking, blistering, delamination and yellowing. We state it as the distributor states it — the manufacturer’s international pages break it down differently, so if you need it for a claim, ask us for it in writing.

How it differs from the films next to it

With FlexiShield films you choose by two numbers: 191 microns and an 8-year warranty, 203 microns and 10 years, or 216 microns and 12 years. PPF Flex is chosen differently. At 200 microns it sits between FlexiShield BHP and FlexiShield WSH, but thickness isn't what decides it here — the surface is. The ceramic layer is part of the film, so water beads on it and dirt holds on less from the first day, with nothing else applied. The surface also responds to heat: fine scratches and wash swirls close up on their own once the car warms in the sun. The range has a matte version too, and that is FEYNLAB PPF Flex Matte.

Where it has a limit

The ceramic layer is on the film, not on the paint. The paint underneath stays as it was on the day of installation, and what protects it is the film — the layer only makes washing easier and keeps dirt from sticking.

Self-healing applies to fine wash scratches, not to a stone. A stone is stopped by the thickness of the material, and here that is 200 microns, no more.

The film repairs nothing. Scratches and faded colour already in the paint are covered and held underneath it. And the film isn't completely invisible: you won't look for it across a panel, but up close at the panel's edge you can see where it ends.

When to choose a different route

Do you want as much material as possible against stones? Then FlexiShield WSH Pro is the one — 216 microns and a 12-year warranty. Is the base enough for you, without a ceramic layer? FlexiShield BHP. Do you want a matte surface? FEYNLAB PPF Flex Matte or FlexiShield BHP MAT. Is only one spot wearing, a sill or the boot edge? Film on a single part covers that. And ceramic for the glass, wheels and interior, where film doesn't go, is handled by surface ceramic protection. For where each film belongs on the car, see PPF film.
