FEYNLAB PPF Flex Matte — a satin matte protection film

FEYNLAB PPF Flex Matte: a TPU protection film with a satin matte surface and a 10-year warranty. It turns gloss paint matte and protects it at the same time.

You want the car in matte, but respraying is irreversible, and a decorative wrap changes the look while stopping a stone about as well as nothing at all.

FEYNLAB PPF Flex Matte is a protection film made of aliphatic TPU with a satin matte surface. It does both things at once: it turns gloss paint matte and protects it like any PPF — a stone or a scuff hits the film, not the paint underneath. The warranty is 10 years and, according to the Czech distributor, covers cracking, blistering, delamination and yellowing. We state it as the distributor states it — the manufacturer’s international pages break it down differently, so if you need it for a claim, ask us for it in writing.

Satin matte works differently on a car from gloss. Gloss paint reflects its surroundings, so what you mostly see in it is whatever is standing nearby; a matte surface scatters the light and you see shape instead. Along the edges of the wings and down the sides of the bonnet, where gloss gives you only a streak, matte shows where the line actually runs.

How it differs from the films next to it

We fit two matte films. FlexiShield BHP MAT is the matte version of the base FlexiShield line, with a 7-year warranty. Flex Matte carries 10 years and adds a built-in top layer that repels water — it isn't applied to the film after installation, it is part of the material. The surface has a structure of its own that scatters light, so the car doesn't show the maps of reflections you know from gloss paint. And like the gloss FEYNLAB PPF Flex, it responds to heat: fine wash scratches close up on their own once the car warms in the sun.

Against a coloured wrap the difference is in what the film can take. A decorative wrap changes the look but doesn't absorb a stone strike. This one does. If what you want is mainly the colour or the effect, coloured PPF film is the right page.

Where it has a limit

The manufacturer does not state the thickness of the matte version. For the gloss Flex it gives 8 mil; for the matte one it gives nothing, and we are not going to derive one from the other. If thickness is what decides it for you, choose from the clear FlexiShield films, where each line states it.

Matte is a property of the film, not of the paint. Take the film off and the car is glossy again — against a respray that is an advantage, not a shortcoming.

The film repairs nothing. Whatever is in the paint on the day of installation stays underneath it, and under a matte surface you will see it no better than under a clear film.

When to choose a different route

Do you want matte for less, and are seven years enough? FlexiShield BHP MAT. Do you want to keep the gloss and deal only with protection? FEYNLAB PPF Flex or the clear FlexiShield films. Does the car already have matte paint from the factory and you only want it protected, not covered? That is a different job, handled by surface ceramic protection.
