Open the bonnet and the engine sits under a layer of grease, dust, leaves and old grime, even when the rest of the car is spotless. It's not just about looks – a neglected engine bay can also hide signs of trouble you'd otherwise spot straight away.
Engine bay cleaning answers three different situations. You're selling the car and want the engine bay to look as well kept as the bodywork and interior, because buyers look under the bonnet too. You're heading in for a service, where a leak or loose fitting is harder to spot under a coating of grease and dust. Or something has already leaked – oil, coolant, brake fluid – and dried onto and around the engine, so the engine bay needs cleaning before anyone works on it again.
Engine bay cleaning is a standalone service, separate from washing the bodywork. If you'd like the whole car washed alongside a clean engine, that's covered by our full hand wash or hand car wash. If you also need the interior done, that's our interior hand wash. What's included
- Inspection of the engine bay. We check how dirty the engine is, where grease and grime have built up the most, and what needs special care during cleaning.
- Engine bay cleaning. We clear the grease, dust, leaves and grime from the engine bay, to the extent we agree after looking at your car. Where cleaning would put wiring or electronics at risk, we leave the grime where it is and tell you so.
- Final check. Before handing the car back, we go over the engine bay again so you can see what has changed. We do not assess the engine's mechanical condition and this is no substitute for diagnostics: what to do about a leak belongs at a service centre.
The price
Engine bay cleaning has one price, whatever the size of the car and however dirty the engine is. The intake and handover surcharge applies only when the car comes in for this work alone; added to another job, it does not.
