A Coating for a Car That Lives Outdoors

The car stands outside all year. In winter it runs on salted roads and the salt stays on it for days after the snow is gone. In summer a bird dropping lands on the bonnet and dries in the sun before you get to the car. And you intend to keep the car five, seven years, without having to deal with its protection again every season.
Outdoors it is chemistry that wears the paint, not touch
A car that lives in a garage mostly meets mechanical things: the wash mitt, the towel, the brush. A car parked outside gets something else on top. Salt brine off the road clings to the lower panels and sits in the sills for weeks. Bird droppings and tree sap act on paint like acid. Iron dust from brakes and rails bakes into the surface. And ultraviolet light runs through all of it all summer.
Winter maintenance adds to the load: you wash more often and with stronger chemistry, and wheel cleaner lands on the lower doors and sills as well.
A layer meant to last years outdoors is judged not by how it looks at handover, but by how much chemistry it takes.
Why a long horizon comes down to layer thickness
FEYNLAB Ultra V3 is the line the manufacturer calls the flagship of its coatings. It has a high solids content, so once cured it forms the thickest layer in the range, and with it a high resistance to chemicals. The manufacturer quotes five years for it. One step below sits Ceramic V3, for which the manufacturer quotes three years.
A thicker layer does not mean nothing touches the car. It means there is more material between the salt and the paint that can be spent. Salt, acidic droppings and harsher chemistry react with the layer, not with the paint underneath.
Ultra V3 is supplied by the manufacturer to certified installation centres only. SEVEN Works is a certified FEYNLAB studio and installer.
What a five-year horizon decides once and for all
The longer the horizon, the earlier the decisions fall that you will not revisit for five years.
Whatever stays under the layer, you will be looking at the whole time. Swirl marks, dull patches and scratches get sealed in and can only be removed once the coating comes off. That is why, on paint that carries them, we propose paint correction beforehand as a separate step.
The same goes for surface preparation. Old wax, embedded iron and tar have to come off the paint before the layer bonds to it — that is what decontamination wash is for as part of the job.
What Ultra V3 cannot do
It will not stop stone chips. A ceramic coating is chemical protection, not a barrier. The front bumper, the leading edge of the bonnet and the mirrors call for PPF film; Ultra V3 then goes on top of it as well.
It will not heal wash marks. It is a hard layer, not a self-healing one. Whatever forms in it over five years stays in it.
It will not spare you the washing. Salt brine has to come off the car. The layer does not neutralise it, it only gives it a surface where it does its damage more slowly.
How a ceramic coating bonds to paint and where its general limits lie is covered in How ceramic protection actually works.
Who it is not worth it for
If you change cars in two or three years, a five-year layer will not serve you five years and you will never draw on the extra resistance; a lower line makes sense there. It is not worth it on a car that lives in a garage, covers few kilometres and stays in over winter — the chemical load Ultra V3 exists for never reaches it. And it is not worth it where you do not want to deal with the state of the paint first; you would be paying for long protection over a surface you will not like for all that time.
Before we start, we go over the paint and show you what is dirt and what is a defect. We give a two-year warranty on the workmanship, the FEYNLAB manufacturer warranty applies to the material, and we follow the layer at warranty inspections.
Send us the make, model and year of the car, where it is parked and whether the paint carries wax, an older coating or film. A photo of the bonnet in daylight helps. You can also call +420 739 374 074.
